Gouverneur Kemble letter to unidentified recipient [manuscript], 1844 Mar 6

Kemble tells his correspondent that he had "purposed as soon as the river was open to proceed to Buffalo," and that he plans to still do so unless he learns that the boat will not be there. On verso another hands notes that Kemble wished to make a trial of the "Alert."

He became a businessman, founding America's first quality cannon factory, and was appointed consul of Cadiz by President Monroe, spending much time in the Mediterranean. He served two terms in Congress as a Democrat, declining the nomination for a third term.
